The 2nd annual Sudden Rush Banked Slalom took place on Crap Masegn in Laax this weekend. Hosts Nicolas Mueller and Terje Haakonsen chose a new location for the course, and the shapers shoveled all week to get it done, spending hours each day digging out the banks. The steady snowfall didn’t make their job easy, but they managed to pull it off and present a fun yet challenging slalom course. The flow was awesome, sometimes tight turns, sometimes a bit looser, but always a pleasure. Compared to last year it was slightly longer, or so it felt. Definitely not as open and much more surfy. A total leg burner!
The main competition day was completely whiteout with heavy snowfall and low visibility, but everyone gathered up at the start gate and got one run each (instead of two, due to the conditions). Most of us made it down, some of us fell, some of us missed gates, but at the end of the day Terje was yet again the fastest snowboarder on the mountain. Congrats to him and thanks to all involved, and to everyone who came out and spent some time in surfing the banks in Laax!
Big thanks to Aaron Schwartz for the text and photos!
